Start with your playing surface, then compare fit and price. The wrong sole design can make an otherwise appealing football boot a poor purchase. Check your pitch operator’s rules and the exact retailer specification before choosing firm-ground, artificial-grass, turf or soft-ground footwear.
Understand the labels before choosing the brand
FG commonly refers to firm ground, AG to artificial grass, TF to turf and SG to soft ground. These are useful starting labels, not permission to use a boot on every surface. Artificial pitches have different constructions and venue rules; check the sole pattern approved for the pitch where you play.
A combined FG/AG label still needs confirmation against the manufacturer’s guidance and your venue. Indoor or futsal footwear is another category. For soft-ground boots, check the stud arrangement and any restrictions on replacement studs before buying.

Choose by surface and fit, then compare the cost
The adult 100 Turf TF boots are listed at £14.99 and the adult 100 FG/AG boots at £17.99 in this snapshot. The £3 difference is less important than choosing a suitable sole. A low-priced boot for the wrong pitch is not good value.
The Viralto I SG listing is a separate soft-ground option at £34.99. Do not treat it as an upgrade for every surface. Compare the retailer’s intended use and how the boot fits with the football socks you wear.
Adult and junior kit need separate checks
Check both feet against the retailer’s sizing guide, including any stated width or fit notes. Brand sizes and designs can differ. A child’s growing foot still needs a suitable current fit; buying an excessively large boot for future growth may compromise handling.
Shin pads and socks complete a different part of the kit. Compare the player’s size, pad coverage and how the pads are retained. The junior pads in the table are shown separately from the adult boots; they are not a suggested adult bundle. Add any required protection and delivery to the order cost.

Can FG boots be used on every artificial pitch?
No universal assumption is safe for a buying decision. Check the exact manufacturer guidance and venue rules; pitch constructions and acceptable soles vary.
Are turf boots the same as indoor boots?
No. Turf and indoor soles are different configurations. Select footwear for the surface and retailer-stated intended use.
Do adult boots include shin pads?
Not unless the retailer explicitly lists them as part of the package. Check included contents rather than assuming a complete kit.
